Social Scouting: Do You Know Who’s Watching You?

  1. The captain.  Estes is easy to work with.  Straightforward, no b.s.  If you can’t talk to someone openly and candidly, about work or about life, it will never work.  Period.
  1. The villagers.  There’s a reason why Talklaunch receives rave reviews in and around Denver, and that’s because they deliver quality services.  I don’t have to write this column every week, but I choose to because of the relationship Talklaunch has with the community.
  1. The screening.  This, in my opinion, is the important part.  Talklaunch doesn’t work with everyone.  There’s a level of integrity, and this is important when working with clients.

4 Ways To Break The Block: Writing With Keywords

Find the Humor

Spin that shit.  There is always funny, usually the deeper you get the funnier it gets. Making fun of your subject and riff on it until its exhausted. Then take it a little further. All you need is one line – that ONE line to get you rolling.  There is a fine line you have to walk: how dark, how controversial can you be and still be accessible?  You’ll never know until you cross the line.  Grow a pair and make me laugh.

If creativity is defined as taking two or more seemingly unrelated ideas or concepts and finding a way to link them together, Pinterest may be a breeding ground for visual creativity.

One of Us: Jason Roberts

Beer: The Original American Social Network.  Beer is responsible for the American Revolution.  Sounds odd, but true.  The ‘founding fathers’ were generally a lofty bunch of blowhards.  It was the men in the pubs, over beers, who burned the fires of revolution.  Paul Revere was the guy who bridged the democratic ideals with the brawn of the American citizen.  Revere raised many a pint with the men who worked with their hands, AND the men who worked with their brains.
Revere was the glue.
Talklaunch has a Revere, Jason Roberts.  Jason bridges the tech community to the amateurs.  His writing relays the basic operations of the Internet and it’s impact on our culture.  And he likes beer.  Jason and I tore up Denver a few weeks back, hitting a bunch of local brewpubs.  We raised our glasses, told lies and laughed our ass off.  Sounds like a revolution brewing.  Jason is building a full time position in Social Media, he’s a father, and he likes Robert DeNiro movies.  We were lucky he spent a little time with this Q & A:
I am Jason Roberts,  a father, a husband, social media advocate, and craft beer connoisseur. I grew up in Pensacola, Florida for the most part. My father was in the Navy when I was a baby so we moved to Jacksonville, Florida for two years then moved back to Pensacola. I lived in Biloxi, Mississippi, from 1984 – 1991, Wichita Falls, Texas, from 1991 – 1994, then I moved back home to Pensacola, Florida.  I was first called Jay by my great aunt back in the 80′s and it stuck. At my 9-6 gig I was tagged J-Ro because there’s another Jason that works here.I feel like I’m a pretty good person overall. The most valuable thing I own is my word.My career is a small private software company that tracks data for over one hundred and fifty medical facilities across the country.
I get inspired by philanthropist who care enough to do what they can for the greater good of our society.  I get a little too fired up and emotional about things sometimes but it’s only because I care so much.

Mind Your Mingling

By: Katrina Pfannkuch
As an entrepreneur, making sure you get out and connect with as many people as possible is part of the deal – in person and online. But the spray gun approach to networking isn’t necessarily the best. Without an idea of how you are truly adding value for people in a way that works for them, you waste their time and your own.
But what, you ask, about spreading the word as much as possible?
Part of planting the seeds for your business is the time spent getting out into your “community”, but it’s a big waste of time if you have no idea who that community is in the first place. So, what is your strategy? Who uses your products or services directly vs. someone who may be able to refer you? Who is just going to constantly push their crap on you and never ever produce a good referral?
I also hear you asking…but what if someone MIGHT recommend me in the future? Shouldn’t I just know as many people as possible? Well, yes, if they even care about what you are providing in the first place. Why waste time crop dusting when you can spend a shorter amount of quality time connecting with people who actually care about your services and can effectively explain them to others?

Are You Unknowingly Keeping the Breaks on Your Life?

By: Katrina Pfannkuch

To be alive means you have some idea of what you want to happen in your life. It may not be specific, clear or super mind-blowing at this exact moment, but you have hopes and dreams you want to come to fruition in some shape or form. What you may not realize out right is when the “mind goblins” throw on the brakes, because it’s not always obvious.

I think I can best illustrate my point with a true story that involves cars, racing and me being really clueless.

I dated a guy for a short period of time that owned a race Porsche – a 1972 911 to be exact. It was not street legal and he raced in on it on local race tracks as well as in other racing events nationwide. After a few weeks of dating, he asked me if I wanted to drive it as part of a “ladies day” at the race track. I would be paired with an official racing instructor and race against other ladies on a road rally track. For you non-racers out there, that is a diverse track with lots of twists, turns and curves, not a Nascar track shaped as an oval.

Unbeknownst to him, driving a Porsche was on my rudimentary bucket list. And my first response to his amazing and generous offer? I tried to talk him out of it – several times. Seriously.

The Rundown: LinkedIn

The Rundown:By: Jason Roberts

LinkedIn was launched way back in 2003 by Reid Hoffman and a group of talented people who were from PayPal and Socialnet.com. LinkedIn’s main office is located in Mountain View, California, which is the same location as Google. LinkedIn boasts offices across America and two locations in Europe. LinkedIn’s initial public offering (IPO) back in May of this year created quite a buzz in the market since the stock performed better than expected in its first day.

LinkedIn claims it has 116 million users signed up and leads the way for corporate people to make social media connections. I’ve had my LinkedIn account for a few years now and I’ve made some great connections with people in business. LinkedIn allows you to build your profile that can double as a resume or a business card.
