The Economist believes Facebook’s acquisition of Instagram was designed to kill off a competitor ahead of Facebook’s IPO, reasoning that Instagram can provide a social sharing platform too similar to Facebook’s own. But then CNET argues that Facebook could have improved their photo-sharing capabilities by buying other startups.
